Main activities:Istituto Superiore Mario Boella is an applied research center focused on ICT-enabled innovation and wireless technologies. ISMB operates in cooperation with other research organizations, universities and industries to contribute to the overall innovation process.
The Institute was founded by Politecnico di Torino and Compagnia di San Paolo in 2000. The main building is part of the Politecnico di Torino Campus. The Laboratories are managed in partnership with Politecnico and host a total of 150 researchers from both organizations working on joint projects.
ISMB is open to establishing contacts and cooperation agreements with other research institutions operating in similar technological areas, in order to extend the network of partners potentially involved in joint projects. ISMB research labs cover the whole range of competences and technologies playing a key role in the evolving Internet of Things scenario. From the design and programming of low power, wireless-enabled, small embedded systems to be dispersed in the environment, up to the development of services and applications in line with the new paradigms of cloud computing and software as a service, ISMB can offer full support to projects aimed at the implementation of new systems and services that will build the future internet.
The main Research Areas are: Photonics and Polymer Optical Fibers, Broadband Wireless Ad Hoc Networks, Cognitive Networks and Pervasive Technologies, Satellite Positioning and Navigation, e-Health, Multimedia and other services.
